Our Team
Dr. Alex Furtado, DPT, CPPC
Pelvic health and postpartum care from a physical therapist who has walked the recovery she treats.
She has been on your side of the table.
Alex came through a traumatic birth and a difficult recovery of her own.
She also knows the quieter part: stepping into a new identity as a mother while still being a working professional.
She chose to bring that experience into how she practices. It is why her care is person-centered, and why the first thing that happens is you being actually heard.
What you get from a visit with Alex
You get an evaluation that starts with your story, then examines the whole system.
- One-on-one pelvic floor therapy with the same clinician, every visit.
- Care matched to the stage you are in: pregnancy, postpartum, or the menopause transition.
- Strength and fitness guidance for each of those stages, not generic exercise.
- Goals you set together, revisited as you progress.
Birth-informed physical therapy, in plain terms
Pregnancy and birth change the pelvic floor, the abdominal wall, the ribs, and the breath.
Those parts work as one system. Treating them separately is why so much postpartum care stalls.
Alex treats them together. That is what makes her approach birth-informed rather than just pelvic-focused.
She sees people for postpartum recovery, pelvic pain, diastasis recti, and prenatal prep.
Where she trained
- DPT, Washington University in St. Louis, 2015
- CPPC, plus several performance coaching certifications
- Over a decade practicing in New England: orthopedics, sports physical therapy, and pelvic health
- Trained as a birth and postpartum doula
- Certified in fitness through pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and the menopause transition
Her patients have ranged from youth athletes to professional athletes and the military. Plenty of them just wanted to stay healthy and active in daily life.
Then she moved to Iowa, where her family became a family of four.
If you have been told this is just normal now
You have read the forums. You have been handed a printout of kegels. You have been told to give it time.
You kept asking anyway. That instinct was right, and it is exactly the kind of patient who does well here.
Leaking, pain and pressure do not have an expiry date. Waiting mostly means more years of planning your life around them.
Book time with Alex
