Natalie Johnston: Here we are. We’re gonna jump right in. I have Jen Robb with me and um I met Jen a few months ago and I I think it was via Carlin, right?

Jennifer Robb: Yeah. It was great.

Natalie Johnston: And so anyway, um Jen has been kind enough to volunteer her time to come do a sound bath for us here. And um that’s going to be held April 17 from 7 o’clock to 8 o’clock here in North Liberty at Motion Matters Physical Therapy and Wellness. So I’m going to just turn this over to you, Jen, and have you maybe tell us a little bit about what is a sound bath? Who should come to such a thing?

Jennifer Robb: All right. So if you guys are ready to get just a little bit weird, sound baths are amazing. Um the biggest misconception is that they’re in the water, that they’re actually a bath, and that can happen. Yes. But that’s not what we’re doing. Um, I try to explain sound bath as adult nap time. So, you’ll just come on in in your comfy clothes, maybe bring a blanket, maybe bring a little pillow, a yoga mat if you have one, and we’ll just work our range of motion in our joints a little bit, kind of release tension through the muscles, and then you’ll just lie down. Or you can rest with your back against the wall, whatever you need to feel as comfortable and supported as possible. So once you find yourself in a comfortable position, I’ll start to play some instruments. So singing bowls, gongs, drums, chimes, and it just the waves of the sound is what washes over you. So that’s where the name sound bath comes from. Um there’s kind of three key factors that play a part in sound bath. There’s the intention of the practitioner and the recipient. So you’ll have an intention for the sound bath and and what you want to gain from it. And my intention for you is usually that you’re just able to release anything that no longer serves you and that we’re able to fill up that empty space with the healing energy from the universe. Um the second thing is the brain waves. So we take you from that really busy thinking brain wave pattern into the slow delta relaxed brain wave pattern. So you’re not hypnotized. Um you’re still here. You’re in your state of mind. I can’t promise you won’t fall asleep, but if you do fall asleep, it’s just because you needed it. And that’s okay, too. Um and then the third thing is the frequency of the vibrations. So all the crystal singing bowls are tuned in alignment with our chakras or the energy vortexes of our body. So we have chakras from the crown chakra down to the root chakra. And we can play these singing bowls and it’s called entrainment where the cells of your body want to vibrate at the same frequency as the sound being presented. So, we get your chakras back in alignment to bring balance back into your body. So, um it’s a really good way to work through trauma. It’s shown really helpful effects with veterans. You don’t have to go through talk therapy and rehash all of your trauma. The vibration of the instruments just allows those um issues in the tissues to just be released as you just relax and lie on your mat. And so, it’s pretty amazing stuff. Um so, it is a little woo-woo, but there is science behind the woo-woo. And I can guarantee you will have a relaxing experience. So come check it out. Give it a try. See if you like it.

Natalie Johnston: I love it. So you said a lot of big words in there that some might be like, whoa. Chakra was one of them. Okay. Don’t be afraid of the word. It’s okay. Like she said, it might sound a little woo woo, but there is science behind what we’re doing um what she’s doing. And there’s different ways to approach both trauma and releasing of tension. this monkey mind or busy chatter mind that a lot of us in today’s day and age struggle with. It’s this I can’t relax. I can’t turn off my mind. Um and so when we say trauma, it might be PTSD or it might be the trauma of day-to-day survival for some people, right? And so, you know, you don’t have to have um been through a major uh traumatic event to attend. um you may have and I think you’ll find it quite beneficial, but you might also just be struggling with day-to-day like busyness and I can’t relax, I can’t sleep. Um and if that’s you, treat yourself to this sound bath. You will be changed and um it’ll be amazing. Let’s see what So what? Like all you need comfy clothes, a blanket if a comfy blanket if you have one, um yoga mat if you have one, if not you can borrow one, and maybe a bottle of water.

Jennifer Robb: Awesome. And we’ll remind you to turn your phone sound on your phone off.

Natalie Johnston: All right. So, April 17 from 7 o’clock to 8 o’clock. Um check it out and uh go ahead and register so we know how many people are coming.
